Strains: indica, sativa and hybrid
What variety labels mean and how to read them.
The classic labels
Traditionally people speak of indica (linked to relaxation), sativa (linked to energy), and hybrid (a blend). These labels are useful as a starting point, but scientists caution that they are simplifications: two "sativa" varieties can produce very different effects.
What really matters
More than the indica/sativa name, what best predicts the effect is the product's chemistry: its cannabinoid profile (how much THC and CBD) and its terpenes. That is why it pays to look at a product's lab analysis and to talk with your physician and the dispensary staff.
How to choose
First define your goal with your physician (for example, rest, an active day, symptom management). Then compare products by their THC/CBD content and terpene profile, not just by name. Keep a simple log of what you tried and how you felt: it is the best personal guide.
